Vatican Breach / Violación del Vaticano
This painting represents the day that the then famous Sinead O'Connor came on to national television and tore up a picture of the pope in 1992 to protest what she perceived to be the sins of organized religion. I created this as homage to her for her courage to stand up for what she believed in. I canonized her in this painting for her pure and personal honesty. You will notice on the painting that there is a target right between her eyes, which in my personal opinion points out the fact that she became a target of the Roman Catholic Church and Catholics alike, at that very moment. It is as though she is staring down the barrel of a gun waiting to be shot down. After the incident she was seldom seen. Like Christ, she was crucified for saying what she felt and being who she was. You will notice that from her head two additional silhouettes emerge surrounding the original outline representing the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. A Saint is born!
